Frosted Veins 1. (2025) is an image I had been trying many years to create. A few winters ago, the conditions were right to produce a thick frost on freshly fallen leaves. The early morning sun illuminating a clear blue sky. I was so captivated by the way the frost on the edges were glowing in the sunlight. At this time, I did not have my camera with me - so the image eluded me, staying alive only in my memory - and eventually a painting (though I am NOT a painter).
It took so long to get the conditions right again because Texas winters aren't the most predictable. Most years, by the time the frost is thick enough, the leaves are all brown, but I wanted this picture with a red leaf contrasting the bright blue sky.
This past winter, the conditions were exactly as they needed to be. Thick frost on the ground, covering freshly fallen red leaves. Clear blue winter sky and the bright morning sun shining.
Add this image to your wall as a 12”×18” print, and consider pairing it with its companion picture; “Frosted Veins 2.”, which gets a closer look at the frost on this same leaf.
